It has been great seeing my aunt and uncle here in Rijnsburg. They threw an amazing party last night. Two of their couple friends came over as did my cousin Nikki and her boyfriend Jeffrey.
It feels like I just saw them all yesterday. Was just a magical night catching up with all of them.
They made us Chicken masala with Roti bread with a recipe they from Suriname. It was Scrumptious! I won't even start on the cheese! ( 8 different kinds!)
Marco and Peter whom I met for the first time last night were stellar musicians and played for us all night. They are both Scotsmen who married Dutch women so in addition to being good musicians they had that in common and had interesting stories to go along with that.
And yes I did play a few tunes myself!
Today was nice, walked down to Katwijk beach today with Ron and Ria and hiked and hiked by some German bunkers from WW2 as well saw the last remaining part of a wall built by the Nazis all along the coast to keep the allies from bringing war machines such as tanks out. All it takes is a few days in Europe to remind yourself that WW2 wasn't really that long ago. Ria's mother was 12 years old when the war broke out so the pain here runs deep.
We had some drinks on the beach and some petats with peanut sauce and mayonnaise( somewhat of a delicacy here albeit a unhealthy one!)
Been a fantastic couple days, Ron and Aria have made us feel so at home here it makes me wish I could see them more often.
Feeling hungry for some more cheese so I'm heading to the kitchen, we're off to Amsterdam in a couple days so I'll check in soon:)
