A Dutch performance and updates about Diego (by Niki)

We had a really low key day yesterday and just enjoyed relaxing in Leiden and also getting some errands done ie) putting music on our iPods since we have none now!

That evening, Ria's friend Emmie thought we might enjoy a "real Dutch evening" and they planned to take us to this small performance by the Lady Choir that Sounds Bad (or something like that, I am not sure of the proper translation). They start every show with the phrase, "you have been warned" and play guitars and an accordion to traditional Dutch folk songs. Their primary purpose is to visit nursing homes and perform for people with Alzheimer's for example. After the show, one of the women mentioned how heart warming it is when they play and the staff tell them that the woman who was singing passionately in the first row actually hasn't spoken in a month! Must be a beautiful feeling . It was a really nice evening, and although somewhat quirky, it was so great to see people having so much fun! We almost felt like we were on some sort of travel show like Departures or something!

Speaking of television shows, the funniest thing happened yesterday as we were sitting in a cafe. A woman comes up to Josh and asks, "I saw you yesterday on the tram...aren't you on TV?". As the story goes, she thought he was some guy named Paul from The Voice of Holland. Apparently he is a gay TV host that is now traveling around Holland and Ria and Ron describe him as being very flamboyant and loud! Although simply amusing at first, we were hysterical when we looked the guy up! He has curly blonde hair and some chest hair but that is where the similarities end! Hilarious comparison!

Today has been low key too and we have been planning a few details re: Turkey since we leave on Friday! We had lunch with Nikki, Josh's cousin, and are now on our way to her place in Leiden for the evening.

Lately I have been missing Diego quite a lot and that has been difficult. Sharilyn and Alan have been so great at keeping us updated and we had such a great update I have to share it (hope that's okay Sharilyn!):

"Hi and how is it going?
Life is pretty good here. I have gone to the doggy park twice now and it is really fun. Last night a Chihuahua chased me but I got brave and then I chased her. I made everyone laugh at the park. One dog names Rucas likes me and will not leave me alone. But I like the little girl chihuahua who wears a cute red coat. And a nice lady tried to teach me to play fetch and I learned it a little bit. But then when I got home Gramma tried to play it and I forgot it again. I sure have Gramma's number. I stick to her like glue and howl as soon as she gets up in the morning and I don't stop until we go for a walk. And one day I really messed with her and jumped and started to try and teach her tug-a-war with my leach and she got all flustered and then dropped the roll of my poopy bags and they rolled out all over the driveway so then I grabbed the bag roll and tired to teach her tug-of-war with those too. HAHAHA !! That was funny.
The Cowboys beat the Giants so that was exciting. I like NFL a lot but I was sad because I didn't have any game day clothes like Gramma and Grandpa so I think I have a little surprise coming from Ebay.
I hope you are having fun. I am.
Love Diego
P.S. I am thinking about taking out American citizenship. That chihuahua is really hot."

We laughed so hard! What a funny email :)...really made me smile! I can't wait to see what comes from Ebay! It is great to know that he is being so well taken care of :)
